Malcolm Purdy, M.D., graduated from the School of Agriculture at the University of Wyoming and completed his degree in medicine from the University of Utah. He completed his residency in internal medicine at University of New Mexico’s School of Medicine. He practiced as a general internist in Wyoming for six years prior to returning to an oncology fellowship at the University of Colorado. Following that, Dr. Purdy completed a bone marrow fellowship with the Bone Marrow Transplant Program at the University of Colorado and stayed on as a member of faculty. Subsequently, he returned to New Mexico to practice at the VA Hospital and was on faculty with the University of New Mexico. Dr. Purdy joined Hematology-Oncology Associates in 1999 and became President of HOA in 2012. He coordinated the merger with Lovelace Health Systems to create Lovelace Cancer Center in 2017. He remains Medical Director of Oncology and Director of Research for Lovelace Cancer Center.
Dr. Purdy has received several academic awards including the American Cancer Society Fellowship Award and Outstanding Faculty Award from the University of Wyoming Family Practice Residency Program. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the New Mexico Medical Society, the Greater Albuquerque Medical Association, and the AMA. He is a founding member of the New Mexico Cancer Care Alliance and served on the Scientific Review Committee, and was Director of the New Mexico Cancer Care Alliance for three years. He continues to have an active interest in clinical research.
