Comprehensive cancer care starts with early detection through cancer screenings. A screening checks for cancer, or conditions that may lead to cancer, in people who may not have symptoms. Screenings can help health care providers find and treat some types of cancer early when cancer treatment may be more effective. By the time symptoms appear cancer may have already begun to spread, making it harder to treat.
Talk with your provider about the types of screenings that may be recommended and are most beneficial to you.
If your family, has a history of cancer talk to your health care provider about the right screening plan for you. If you do not know about your genetic background, start talking with relatives or friends who know your family's medical history.

Colon Cancer Screening
Starting at age 50, both men and women should discuss including a colon cancer screening in their routine checkups with their health care provider. There are multiple tests to detect colorectal cancer. Having polyps found and removed keeps some people from getting colorectal cancer. If you have a family history of colorectal cancer, it’s recommended that you start getting colon cancer screenings at age 40. Talk to your health care provider about which tests might be right for you.
